Monday, Funday!!! No, that’s not a typo. Since when are Mondays fun days? If the thought of Monday has you cowering under the covers or rolling over to hit the snooze button in an attempt to delay the inevitable, then this post is for you.

Mondays used to be the worst day of the week for me. In fact it was so bad, that it encroached upon my Sundays as well, making the precious free time at the end of my weekend turn sour too. The pit in my stomach usually started to form somewhere around 3 or 4pm on Sunday afternoon while the remaining hours of my weekend rapidly slipped away, and I began to dread returning to the grind of another work week the following day.

Can you imagine a Sunday night where you are able to enjoy quality time with loved ones or engage in activities that recharge your batteries because you are going off to face a Monday morning at a job or doing an activity that you genuinely enjoy? What if you flip the script on your thinking about Mondays? What if you start to view Mondays as the first day of your week full of possibilities and opportunities—a clean slate just waiting for you to write your own story upon it?

I fully recognize this transformation of feelings won’t happen overnight, especially if you haven’t yet begun to consider or explore concrete steps to change your circumstances. Let me challenge you to think about this Monday as THE Monday when you start to be more proactive, more vigilant, and more determined to change not only how you feel about Mondays, but committed to take action to change your personal or professional circumstances that are dragging down your Mondays.

A change of this magnitude takes time devoted to reflection, brainstorming, plan development and most importantly action. As the popular saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” And your circumstances aren’t going to magically change in a day either. But each new Monday, or any new day, is an opportunity to take one step in the direction in which you are wanting to go.

After years of working in call center operations, I can attest to the fact that Mondays are the single highest call volume days regardless of the company or industry in which you work. That’s because people typically spend their weekends going through mail and/or making their “to do” list for the upcoming week over the weekend. On Mondays, most consumers hit the ground running as they begin to tackle those dreaded tasks on their list, like calling a customer service number. What is ONE task you can proactively put on your Monday “to do” list that will positively impact your career or work-life balance this week?

What are you going to do TODAY, this Monday to take one bold action towards making your future Mondays, bona fide FUN DAYS?

If you’re struggling to identify small, manageable tasks that you can add to your Monday critical “to do” list, please follow Pivot Point Professionals on Facebook or @pivotpointprofessionals on Instagram for our #PPPMotivationMonday posts. We will be sharing a new idea each and every week that shouldn’t take you more than 20-30 minutes but will propel you forward in action toward changing your circumstances little by little.
